When corporate wallflower Chris Miller returns to his hometown to reconnect with an old friend at their ten-year high school reunion, his bygone infatuation with pop punk is reignited, stagediving him headfirst into a confrontation with the lingering demons of his past. Seamlessly weaving nearly thirty iconic bands from the 90s and 2000s into its fabric (Avril Lavigne, blink-182, Fall Out Boy and MCR, to name a few), THE REUNION delves deep into the destructiveness of unresolved trauma and the catharsis and evolution that comes through facing one's greatest fears.
We are committed to diversity in casting for this project, and we encourage performers of all genders, gender presentations, ethnicities, abilities, and backgrounds to submit for these roles. When a gender is included in a character description, it refers only to the gender identity and/or presentation of that character as scripted by writer and not that of the performer.
This is an Ensemble driven piece and the ENTIRE CAST will be utilized to fill out the group ensemble numbers as needed.
SEEKING:
CHRIS: (28ish, Male) A former emo kid with heavily medicated anxiety and very Millennial propensity for self-deprecation. Average, unremarkable, and prefers it that way. Keeps people at arm’s length—especially his mom. Stuck in a dead-end accounting job until a push from his high-school best friend, Will, convinces him to attend their ten-year reunion in hopes of rediscovering some joy. Vocal Range: A2–C#5. Gritty pop-punk/rock tenor; Gerard Way vibes. Can blast high C#’s but also dial back to a sincere, subdued tone.
ANGELA: (45-50, Female) Chris’ mom. Hardened exterior, but only to protect herself from the pain underneath. She and Chris have an antagonistic relationship, which she desperately seeks to mend, though she’s unsure how. Vocal Range: E3 – C#5; We hear the emotional fatigue in her voice.
WILL: (28ish, Male) Chris’s childhood best friend and fellow former-emo kid. Kind, grounded, charming, and determined to help when he sees Chris spiraling. Vocal Range: B2–Bb4. Pop-punk/rock tenor with a bit less grit than Chris but equal control.
DREW: (28ish, Female) Successful, sharp, and confident—except in her strained relationship with Chris. Deeply loves him and is fighting to save what they have. Vocal Range: F3–E5. Edgy pop-rock belter with a strong, smooth mix.
JAMIE: (33ish, Male) A gifted punk-rock frontman who put his career on pause to raise his son, Chris. Still hungry for one last shot at making it big. Vocal Range: E3–F#4. Classic ’80s/’90s punk/rock lead—angsty but grounded. Guitar a plus.
AMANDA: (28ish, Female) Former popular girl and Class President; now the hyper-controlling mastermind of the reunion weekend. Sweet on the surface, mean underneath. Doubles as a coffee-shop patron. Vocal Range: A3–F5. Strong pop/rock belt. THIS ROLE IS CAST – SEEKING BACK UPS ONLY.
STEVE: (28ish, Male) Amanda’s attractive husband and high school sweetheart; ex-lacrosse bro turned landscaper. No filter and says whatever pops into his head. Doubles as coffee-shop patron. Vocal Range: F#3–C#5. Powerful pop/rock belt.
REILLY: (28ish, Any Gender) The third member of the popular trio—smart, cool, and the most self-aware of the bunch. Doubles as a coffee-shop patron. Vocal Range: A3–C#5. Strong pop/rock belt.
YOUNG ANGELA: (35ish, Female) A memory-version of Angela, appearing throughout to give emotional context. Doubles as a coffee-shop patron and classmate. Vocal Range: G3–D5. Clean, powerful pop-rock belt. THIS ROLE IS CAST – SEEKING BACK UPS ONLY.
THE VALETRISATENDER: (35–40, Male) A highly empathetic jack-of-all-jobs and secret former emo kid. Crosses paths with Chris at key moments. Must have strong comedic timing. Vocal Range: Ab3–D5. Surprisingly strong pop-punk singer. THIS ROLE IS CAST – SEEKING BACK UPS ONLY.
ENSEMBLE: (28–40, All Genders) Play multiple roles—classmates, coffee-shop patrons, and more. Must handle comedy and quick character shifts. Vocal Range: Various; strong pop-punk/rock style.
