Hi Friends! I’ve always been a gal that refused to participate in activities that would suggest, even in the slightest, that I was domestic. It was never a goal of mine to be anything close to what I considered a “housewife”. And, let’s be honest - working in NYC - who has time for that anyway?!?!
Needless to say, my cooking skills were always sorely lacking. Even though I’ve worked in all levels of restaurants throughout my life and I have a great respect for the many talented chefs I’ve met along the way - you could not get me in my kitchen. My block was a bias… a made up idea in my mind of what it meant to cook - what was WRONG with me?!?
During this quarantine I’ve embraced my inner “housewife” - cooking, cleaning, maintaining, reorganizing and it’s been…..FUN. Last night I made a Steak au Poivre with truffled green beans. WHAT?!? Delicious! I also recently re-organized my entire kitchen, including assembling an expertly labeled spice rack which holds 30 spices, so that the kitchen would be more functional for my use. LMAO
There are small ways of stepping out of your comfort zone yet to be discovered! I’m proud that I have pushed past this nonsensical bias to discover just how much I love working in the kitchen.
Yesterday, I saw this article below posted on Alison Mahoney’s wall. She was featured in the New York Post discussing this very phenomenon. It made me laugh so hard, but also, it was fun to see that I wasn’t alone. Way to go, Alison!
Anyway, embrace your inner “housewife” because we don’t have the naked chefs of Sizzling Kitchen Showdown to cook and dance in our kitchen each night (pity). *see video below - enjoy!
Happy Cooking, Holly
